Fri 30.10. Giuseppe De Luca: Cross Body Salsa Pre-Party Workshop

A new twist on couple salsa! Come and try LA-style cross body salsa and get in the mood for Flama Friday Social dances.

Want to tell others?

On Friday 30 October, the pre-party workshop before Flama Friday Social will introduce you to cross-body salsa, a popular style of partner salsa in Europe and North America. Unlike Cuban salsa, this style is danced in a line (salsa en línea). There are two main styles of cross-body salsa, and in this workshop you’ll get to try the LA style under the guidance of Flama instructor Giuseppe.

The workshop covers the basics and is suitable for those who have mastered the fundamentals of Cuban salsa, i.e., those who have participated in a beginner’s course. No previous experience of cross body salsa (salsa en linea) is required.

Please note! The language of instruction for the workshop is English.

Cross body salsa

Cross body salsa (also known as salsa en línea) is one of the most popular styles of salsa in Europe and North America. It differs from Cuban salsa (casino), for example, primarily in the direction of movement: in cross body salsa, the couple dances in a straight line (linea), while in Cuban salsa, the movement progresses in a circular pattern as the couple turns around each other. There are two styles of cross-body salsa: LA style (Los Angeles), which is danced on1, meaning the step begins on beat 1, and NY style (New York, on2), where the step begins on beat 2. This workshop will focus on LA style.

Giuseppe De Luca

In 2018, Giuseppe started dancing salsa and bachata in Italy, about six months before moving to Finland. Since then, dance has been a big part of Giuseppe’s life. Over the years, he has focused especially on bachata and has had the opportunity to train with international artists, such as Ataca and La Alemana. Giuseppe has also completed their dance teacher training, which dives deeper into their signature style, Bachata Moderna – a smooth, expressive and dynamic style of bachata.

“Whether it’s your first time dancing or you’ve already taken a few steps before, my goal is to help you feel comfortable, connect with your dance partner, and above all, enjoy the music and have fun on the dance floor,” says Giuseppe.
