PAULIINA LATVA

Pauliina is a dancer and a dance teacher who has also graduated as a physiotherapist (The University of Applied Sciences). Pauliina has practiced various dance styles, such as contemporary dance, show dance, hip hop, breakdance, acrobatics as well as salsa. Her strength is that she utilizes the techniques of different dance styles, regardless of the dance style in question. She spent her autumn 2016 in New York studying dance independently, in addition to which she has developed herself as a dancer through various courses and workshops both in Finland and abroad, for example in London, New York, and Los Angeles. Pauliina is also a Personal Trainer (TYA/South Africa).

As a teacher, Pauliina is inspiring and encouraging. Her dance classes are filled with versatile dance know-how and good feeling, and typically different dance styles are open-mindedly combined. Her classes teach you how to listen to the music and interpret it with your own body movements. “During my dance classes, I want to create an open and safe space where one can learn through experimentation and shared insights! My main job as a dance teacher is to motivate others to become interested in the versatility of their own bodies and the opportunities they create.”

The end of our autumn season will be celebrated on Saturday, the 18th of December 2021 from 8.30 pm to 1 am at Dance Studio Flama!

We will have two dance floors where salsa, bachata, reggaeton, kizomba and semba will be danced late into the night. DJ Papi will play his best tunes and the great atmosphere is guaranteed!

We will also have amazing dance performances by Flama’s show groups. The showtime is at 9.30 pm.

A Covid-19 passport is required and checked at the door for all participants arriving at the party. This is because the Southwest Finland Regional State Administrative Agency has banned indoor public events that are attended by more than 20 people, if the Covid-19 passport is not in use (the restriction is valid from the 10th to 31st of December 2021). In order to be able to organize this party, we have to take the Covid-19 passport in use.

You can purchase your entrance ticket already in advance through our webshop.

Dress code: wear something red

The entrance fee is 10 €.

Place: Dance Studio Flama, Linnankatu 84, 20100 Turku

Remember to take your dance shoes or other indoor shoes with you because the shoes used outdoors will be left in the lobby.

Dance Studio Flama is located next to Turku Castle at Linnankatu 84. Bus Line 1 (Market Square–Turku Harbor) will stop just in front of Flama and the bus trip from market square to the dance studio takes around 10 minutes. Check the bus schedule at http://www.foli.fi/ to choose the right time to come. If you decide to come by your own car, there are parking options nearby.

Welcome to have fun and enjoy the best people, music and dances!

Matias Löyttyniemi’s Couple Salsa Workshops of Rhythmics and Styling on Saturday the 4th of December!

Schedule for the 4th of December 2021:

13:00–14:30 Salsa Rhythmics, open level
There are easily a dozen instruments in Cuban salsa, but how to know when to start dancing to the music? This couple salsa workshop delves into the rhythm of salsa music, when dancing with a pair. Let’s look for the pulse of the dance from different instruments and understand the basic features of salsa music to make it easier to find its famous count number one in the future. This workshop is suitable for anyone who has danced couple salsa before!
Level: open level – suitable for anyone with the knowledge of social dancing and the basic movements of couple salsa. The workshop is also suitable for those who have already been dancing couple salsa longer but want to improve their connection with the music.
14:45–16:15 Couple Salsa Styling, intermediate, for those who have been dancing couple salsa actively at least for two years (for example dancers in Matias’ Couple Salsa 3 and Couple Salsa 4 courses)
This workshop delves into how you can style your own dancing when dancing couple salsa. Cuban salsa is a wonderful dialogue at its best, with ideas and jokes constantly flowing between dance partners. He thinks that the most important thing in dancing is to have fun and to be your authentic self. While many dancehall dancers are remixing each other’s steps, Japs always brings his own twist to dancehall. He creates steps very easily, no matter if it is practicing at his home or walking on the street. His body naturally flows with the rhythm of the music.

Japs has been performing and teaching dancehall for years. He is one of the dancehall teachers in Dance Jamaica dance school and he also teaches private classes. He has been performing in many schools, parties and local shows, such as Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and Jamaica’s biggest award show, The YVAs. Contemporary dance is an “umbrella style” that refers to many different dance styles. Contemporary dance has been influenced by various types of art and our contemporary classes combine elements of both contemporary and jazz dance, having the focus especially on finding the right flow of the movement as well as taking advantage of the gravity while moving. We will get familiar with floorwork and do moving routines to varying and compelling music. The classes contain instructed improvisation exercises that will release one’s own creativity. At the end of the class, we will practice a choreography combining everything learnt earlier.
