Info
Here you can find relevant information about Flama and its conventions and policies.
Flama sprung to life by the inflammable passion for dance and movement. Flama is a Spanish word meaning fire.
Our schedule consists of various classes for dance enthusiasts of all ages, from Latin Dance to Show and Contemporary Dance, not forgetting Body Maintenance. The workshops offered by visiting dance teachers as well as dance events and parties organized in a regular basis play a central role in Flama’s activities.
We offer memorable performances for bachelor and bachelorette parties, business events, kids’ birthday parties, pre-Christmas parties and for various other events.
Flama’s central values include openness, accessibility, respect for different people and cultures, and communality. The joy of dance and movement is a right that belongs to all of us, notwithstanding any gender, age, size, or skill level.
Flama is a dance studio where we do not compete or compare. We want to create an inspirational, positive and encouraging atmosphere where all can enjoy dancing as themselves and ignite their own flame.
OUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR COVID-19
Sign up for all the classes through our reservation system or by sending an email to info@flama.fi.
We will extend the validity of all our punch cards purchased after the 30th of June 2020 until the 31st of July 2021.
The amount of places for each class is limited, so it is important to book each class in advance. If you have to cancel your reservation, you should do it at least six hours before the class starts through our reservation system or by sending an email to info@flama.fi. Otherwise, your card will be charged once, even if you do not come to the class. We hope that the cancellations are made as early as possible so that those in the queue get the information early enough to be able to attend the classes.
We recommend everyone in the queue to check their email for example five hours before the class starts, since that is when most of the cancellations are already done. If you were not able to join the class after your check and you think that you are not able to make to the class in a shorter notice, we kindly ask you to cancel your spot in the queue, so that others have better possibilities to get to the class instead. Furthermore, when you cancel your spot in the queue, you do not have to worry about cancelling the class later via email.
As usual, you enter our studio by using the back door on the side of Turku Castle and you sign in at the reception. The classes in Hall 1 are entered through the two inner doors of the dance hall. Exceptionally, we use the front door on Linnakatu to exit Hall 1, so please bring your outdoor shoes with you to the back of the dance hall. The dressing rooms, toilets and our other facilities will be accessed again after the class only by first going out off the front door on Linnankatu and then entering the studio again. This arrangement will be followed for now to avoid congestion in the hallway leading to the dance hall. When you come to the classes in Hall 2, you leave your shoes at the receptions and exit from the entrance door.
Each class lasts 55 minutes. Thus, there is a little pause between the classes. Please leave the dance hall right after the class, so that the next group will be able to enter the dance hall on time. Wait until the instructor asks you to enter the dance hall. When you come to the classes in Hall 2, please wait at the dressing rooms at least until 10 past, so that the previous group has left the dance hall.
We have our dressing rooms downstairs. The dressing rooms downstairs can be accessed by taking the stairs leading down from the studio’s back door. If there is a queue at the reception when you arrive at the studio, we recommend you to wait outside or first go to the dressing rooms downstairs. Unfortunately, the dressing rooms do not have any lockers. The lockers are situated in the back of Hall 1. Thus, you can take everything with you to Hall 1. If your class is in Hall 2, please leave your bags and outdoor clothes in the dressing rooms and only bring the smallest valuables, such as your phone or a wallet, to the dance hall.
If possible, we would like you to come to our studio having your training clothes already on and your water bottle filled in order to avoid unnecessary time in the changing rooms and other premises. Please keep your distance and bring your own yoga mat to our body maintenance, pilates, and Strength and Mobility classes for hygiene reasons. Alternatively, we rent disinfected mats for the classes for the price of 5 euros.
Under no circumstances should you come to the studio if you have any flu symptoms (sore throat, for example). Wash and disinfect your hands when you arrive at the studio. Disinfectants are available in all our facilities. We disinfect door handles, faucets and other surfaces several times a day. If you sneeze, cough into your sleeve.
We recommend you to sign up for the classes in advance through Avoinna24 reservation system that you can find under the “Reservations” tab on our website. Especially our most popular classes (such as twerk and reggaeton) are often full, so you might not fit in if you do not have a reservation. We recommend you to make a reservation for all your classes because that is how we can reach you in case of changes or cancellations of the classes.
There is a separate way to sign up for the workshops and intensive courses, meaning that you cannot sign up for them through our registration system. You can sign up either by sending an email to info@flama.fi or purchasing the workshop at our webshop, depending on the course.
If you have to cancel your reservation, you can do it yourself via Avoinna24 system no later than 6 hours before the class starts or by sending an email to info@flama.fi. Attention! We hope that all the cancellations will be done either via Avoinna24 or via email, not for example as Instagram-direct messages or via Facebook. If you have to cancel your reservation less than 6 hours before the class takes place, in case of a sudden illness, do it by sending an email to info@flama.fi. If you do not cancel your class (you do not show up and you have not informed us about it in advance), we will mark a time used in your punch card next time you come to dance with us.
Sign up at the reception each time you arrive at the class. The reception opens 20 minutes before the first class starts and closes at the beginning of the last class of the day. Please come on time to the classes. Each class lasts 55 minutes.
The dance studio reserves the right for changes in schedules and instructors. In case of illness, we always try to find a substitute for the regular instructor of the class. The class offered by the substitute instructor can occasionally be based on a dance style different from the one mentioned in the normal schedule. We will notify you about cancellations by emails or SMS if you have signed up for the class in advance. Card payments will not be refunded if the teacher changes from the scheduled teacher during the term, due to some illness, for example. If the dancing class needs to be cancelled, due to a small number of participants, for instance, the customers’ card payments will be refunded if the customers do not want to use their payments to access other dance classes.
Comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely are the most suitable choices for the classes. You can dance with dance sneakers, dance shoes with heels or bare feet. You are not allowed to use outdoor shoes during the classes. Bring a water bottle with you and remember to drink enough during and after the class. Please remember to put your mobile phone silent for the classes.
Please avoid using strong perfumes during the classes. However, it is important to take care of your personal hygiene, especially when participating in couple dance classes. Wash your hands before the class to prevent the spread of possible flu-like diseases, etc. If you are sick, do not participate in the classes!
If you are sick longer than two weeks, you can extend the validity of your card only by providing a medical certificate. We will not refund your card payments, with the exception of a medical certificate proving an injury or moving to another locality.
The dance studio does not provide insurance for the participants. Thus, everyone is advised to take personal leisure accident insurance. The teacher’s responsibility for the dancers only covers the dance session. Dance studio Flama is not responsible for the items left in the dressing rooms.
Flama has the right to use photos and videos taken of the dancers during Christmas and Spring displays on its website and for marketing purposes.

Can I come to the classes for the very first time in the middle of the season?
Yes you can. Basically all our solo classes are drop in classes, meaning that you can join any of them for the first time whenever you want to. Even though the same choreographies are usually done for 1–4 sessions in a row, depending on each instructor, the choreocraphy is practiced right from the beginning each week. That is why you can join for the first time any week, no matter if it is in the beginning, in the middle or in the end of the season. Just keep in mind that the other dancers might have done this choreography before or danced for a longer time. However, all our beginners’ classes are suitable for those who do not have any prior dance experience. In other words, each day is the right day to start dancing.
Do I have to have prior dance experience to join the class? What is an open level class? How challenging are the classes?
You do not have to have any kind of dance background to join our beginners’ classes. Only in case of couple dance classes, we recommend that you join the classes right in the beginning of the term.
Open level means that you can join the class even if you have not danced the particular dance in question. Although the classes are open for everyone, we recommend the open classes to those who have some sort of dance background. If you have never danced before, join our beginners’ classes.
The classes described as intermediate or advanced are meant for those who have previous experiences of these specific dance styles.
If you are unsure about the level of the class, do not hesitate to contact us and ask for advice. The best way to find the most suitable level for you is to come and try different classes, since there are differences between each instructor’s classes.
Do I need to make a reservation for the class? How do I do it? What if I need to cancel my reservation?
We recommend you to sign up for the classes in advance through Avoinna24 reservation system that you can find under “Reservations” tab on our website. Especially our most popular classes (such as twerk and reggaeton) are often full, so you might not fit in if you do not have a reservation. We recommend you to make reservation for all your classes because that is how we can reach you in case of changes or cancellations of the classes.
There is a separate way to sign up for the workshops and intensive courses, meaning that you can not sign up for them through our registration system. You can sign up either by sending an email to info@flama.fi or purchasing the workshop at our webshop, depending on the course.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS
If you have to cancel your reservation, you can do it yourself 6 hours before the class starts at the latest via Avoinna24 system or by sending an email to info@flama.fi.
What should I wear in the dance classes?
Comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely are the most suitable choices for the classes.
You can dance with dance sneakers, dance shoes with heels, socks, or bare feet. During salsa, bachata, kizomba, semba, and heels classes, you can also use high heel dance shoes, whereas for reggaeton, hip hop, street, and twerk, we recommend you to use indoor sneakers.
During twerk, reggaeton, and Show Burlesque classes, you might want to use some knee pads or for example leg warmers to protect your knees. Please notice that you are not allowed to use outdoor shoes inside our studio!
What should I take with me to the classes?
Bring your own water bottle, comfortable sportswear and dancing shoes, if you wish. To twerk, reggaeton, and Show Burlesque classes, you might want to take some knee pads or leg warmers with you to protect your knees.
How can I purchase a dance class or a punch card?
You can purchase Flama’s punch cards, individual dance classes, and workshops either through our webshop or at our studio. When you purchase a punch card online, you will get it at the studio when you come to the class next time. You can make reservations before getting the actual card. Reservations do not require our membership.
What if I get sick and cannot come to the class?
If you have to cancel your registration on the same day, please inform us about it by sending an email to info@flama.fi. The classes can be canceled through our reservation system only until six hours before the class starts.
If you feel sick, please take your time to rest!
If you are sick longer than two weeks, you can extend the validity of your card only by providing a medical certificate. We will not refund your card payments, with the exception of a medical certificate proving an injury or moving to another locality.
Is it possible to dance at home? Do Dance Studio Flama offer online classes?
Yes, we do have online classes and you can find them on our website. All our online classes are held in Finnish but you are more than welcome to join.
Where can I keep my valuables during the class?
We have some lockers on the back of our dance hall 1. Unfortunately, we do not have lockers for everyone. If all the lockers are in use or you have your class in Hall 2, you can always take your smallest valuables to the dance hall. However, we hope that you leave all the other belongings in the dressing rooms so that they do not take place in the dance hall. Our lockers are meant to be used only during the classes, so you are not allowed to leave your personal belongings there overnight.
We are not responsible for the items left in the lockers.
Is there a shower at the studio?
Yes, we have a shower located at our accessible toilet.
If I have some sort of disability or illness, can I still join the class?
We recommend that you contact our staff in advance if you have an illness or a disability. We are happy to help you.
Are the punch cards personal or can my friend use my card?
Our punch cards are personal. You can only borrow your card to a friend or extend the validity of your card by showing a medical certificate. You should always contact us in advance in these situations.
What if I have to leave before the class ends?
Our classes are 55 minutes long. We ask you to come to the classes on time and stay until the end, but if you sometimes have to leave earlier, we ask you to inform the instructor about it before the class starts.
If we come to the class as a couple, can we dance together the whole time or do we have to change partners?
Yes, you can dance as a couple for the whole class. Although this is possible, we recommend you to take the advantage of changing partners since the experience of dancing with others makes you a better dancer! However, if you decide to dance only with your own partner, that is fine for us. Just let the instructor know about it in the beginning of the class.
What are Flama’s latest instructions for the current Covid-19 situation?
We want to remind you of our important guidelines, so that dancing at Flama would be as safe as possible for everyone. Please read these instructions before coming to our dance studio.
🔶️ The recommendation on the use of face masks is now valid in Southwest Finland and we recommend our dancers to use masks, especially in our changing rooms, waiting areas and couple classes.
🔶️ Every dancer should take care of good hand hygiene and wash / disinfect their hands every time they enter and leave the studio. Hand disinfectants are available in all our areas.
🔶️Those who come to the classes in Hall 1: At the end of the class, the dance hall is exceptionally exited through the front door on Linnankatu. The outdoor shoes are exceptionally taken to the dance hall and placed on the bottom of the hall. The dressing rooms, toilets and other facilities can be reached after the class by first going outside and then entering the studio normally again through our side door entrance. In this way, we can avoid that the groups of consecutive classes will not be in contact and the corridor leading to the dance hall will not get that crowded.
🔶️ Those who come to the classes in Hall 2: Please wait before the class starts preferably in the spacious dressing room downstairs until 10 past. This way we avoid overcrowding in the corridor upstairs.
🔶️ The duration of each class is 55 minutes. Please leave the dance hall right after the class, so that the next group can enter the dance hall in time. The doors will be opened and the spaces ventilated between the classes. Please enter the dance hall only when the previous group has left the dance hall and the instructor has asked you to enter. Please avoid contact between the different groups.
🔶️ If there is a queue in the reception / lobby when you arrive at the studio, we recommend waiting a moment outside or going downstairs first to avoid overcrowding in the lobby. Please always keep a safe distance from other dancers in the waiting areas, if it is possible.
🔶️ We would like you to get ready for the class in advance by coming to the studio already in training clothes and with a filled water bottle, in order to avoid longer stays in the changing rooms and toilets.
🔶️ Please come to our studio only when you are completely healthy. Stay home if you have any symptoms of flu or you have any possibility of been exposed to flu or Covid 19 and apply for a corona test. If you are feeling sick or you have even the smallest flu symptoms, please cancel your class through our reservation system or by sending us an email to info@flama.fi. In case of illness, you can apply for an extension for the validity of your punch card.
🔶️ Flama is cleaned every day and in addition to normal cleaning, our staff regularly disinfects contact surfaces, such as door handles.
Thank you for your cooperation!
