Description
You can dance with dancing shoes or socks. Normal comfortable workout clothes are fine for the class, but if you want, you can also wear something suitable for twerking, such as fishnet tights. Remember to bring your own water bottle as well.
The course also includes floor work, so it is a good idea to bring knee pads or leg warmers to protect your knees. You can buy knee pads from our online shop, or at our studio (30 €/pair).
Freestyle
Looking for your own movement – small steps towards a more confident freestyle! In this course, we will learn how different movements are produced and develop our improvisation skills. The aim of the course is to create a warm atmosphere, so that freestyle is as comfortable as possible. The classes consist of warm-up and exercises that support your own freestyle.
In the first class, we will go through the principles of a safer space, all rehearsals are voluntary and no one is forced to perform alone against their will. If you wish, you can confidentially inform the instructor before the course starts if you have anything on your mind that might affect your participation, such as bad performance experiences, performance anxiety or anything else.

Twerk
The twerk, which has gained great popularity in the world, focuses on the movements of the pelvic area. Twerk has its roots in various African American and African dances, including mapouka, baikoko, niko and chakacha. With slavery, the dances associated with the cultural traditions of different countries, cultures, and tribes in Africa have become mixed, and that is why the roots of the twerk cannot be associated with the dances of just one region or cultural heritage. The concept of twerk started to be used in the late 80s, for example in the context of the bounce hip hop trend in New Orleans.
Meri Niemi
As a teacher, Meri is an easy-going person who encourages her students to go above and beyond. Classes are serious, but with a twinkle in the eye – often filled with laughter and humour as well as dance. Meri thinks that the best thing in her classes is absolutely to see how people go beyond themselves and do something they could not even believed to be possible.
Meri’s favourite motto, often heard in the dance hall, is: own style best style, own moves best moves and own party best party! Meri’s goal as a teacher is that every dancer should dare to be seduced by their own unique movement language and be just the way they are at that moment.
