Ira Saari

Ira Saari is a sport masseur and has been teaching dance for about six years. Ira participates regularly to educational events and workshops.

Ira has experience in many street dance styles and the passion for Reggaeton started in 2010. Throughout the years Ira has educated herself with different teachers in Finland and abroad. Ira has travelled to Cuba many times. There she had the chance to learn also about Cubaton. Ira had the chance in January this year to fulfill her dream. She traveled to Puerto Rico to learn more about the roots of Reggaeton. It has been very inspiring to get to the roots of the dance. Ira hopes to have many more dance trips in the future.

What kind of teacher is Ira?

Ira values good energy on her classes. She wants everyone to have a a safe space to express themselves and to ask any kinds of questions. Reggaeton is first and foremost a dance style with attitude. Ira wants to challenge everyone to get out of their comfort zone. Ira has spent a lot of time to study the roots of the music genre to understand its diversity better. Ira feels responsibility to share her knowledge of the culture to her students.

Reggaeton

Reggaeton is a fusio style. Reggaeton is born in Puerto Rico. The roots of the music travels through Panama to Jamaica and on the other hand also to New York.

In the very beginning Reggaeton was danced for example at parties. The movement was focused on the upper body and hips and it was usually danced with a partner. While the music was commercialized was the dance style too. Nowdays the dance style in known as a street style that you dance solo. Reggaeton does not have spesific rules in the movement. In Puerto Rico the dancers take influence from hip hop. Typically Reggaeton includes strong contrasts. It combines more peacefull and smooth movements with strong and fast accents.
