Description

What if I can’t participate every week?

Absences from classes can be made up during the same term in any other class or drop-in session. This way, no dance session will be wasted! Read more.

What should I bring with me?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and feel good.

The pants should be made of loose material, because it is more difficult to perform twerk techniques in very tight leggings. For heels classes, we recommend high heels with ankle support. The best option for heels technique is a thin stiletto heel, but you can also dance in thicker heels. The sole of the shoe should be thin but firm, so a platform sole is not the best choice. However, do not stress about the shoes! Please make sure, however, that the soles of your dance shoes are clean and the heel caps are intact so as not to damage the dance floor. The course also includes floorwork practice, so it’s a good idea to bring knee pads or leg warmers to protect your knees. Knee pads are also available for purchase in our online store and at our studios. Remember to bring a water bottle.

Twerk with Heels

In the class, we fuse the basic techniques of both twerk and heels, learning to twerk naturally and confidently in heels. We practice combining heels and twerk techniques, exploring how twerk movements feel in our bodies with the shift in weight and posture that heels bring, and what new elements heels can add to already learned twerk basics. The course includes choreographies that combine twerk with smooth, feminine movement.

Meri Niemi

Meri is a dance teacher from Turku whose classes are filled with laughter and humor while training at full speed. Meri believes that working out and having fun do not exclude one another, on the contrary, the more fun dance classes are, the more likely we are to keep coming back to our hobby time and time again. When dancing, Meri is primarily interested in and inspired by the use of different energies and delving deeper into the qualities of movement. As an instructor she is a relaxed, but encourages dancers to always do their best in the moment – listening to their own bodies. Meri often receives praise from her students for her encouraging, positive energy and her clear and calm teaching style, which makes it easy even for beginners to keep up with the class. A motto often heard in Merin’s classes is that the moves or choreography don’t matter—it’s all about attitude. Everyone is welcome to Meri’s dance classes just as they are. No matter the style, the focus is on discovering and nurturing your own unique way of moving.

“Come to class exactly as you are today, and move in the way that feels right for you today!”

Meri teaches twerk and reggaeton at Flama, and occasionally also commercial dance classes. You may also spot her at the front desk or replying to your emails, as in addition to teaching, Meri works in the studio’s office.
