Flamenco has its roots in southern Spain, in the Romany communities of the Andalusian region. It has also been influenced by Andalusian, Moorish and Jewish people. Flamenco is known for its intensity and emotional expression. Flamenco is characterized by the smooth movements of the hands, the taps of the feet and the strong presence of the dancer. It is a dance of deep emotion, tradition and passion that expresses a range of feelings.
In the Flamenco classes, you will practice the basic techniques of Flamenco – tapping with the shoes as well as the movement of the hands and body – and learn choreographies to different styles known as palos.
The clothes in which you can move comfortably and feel good are the best choice for these classes. We recommend sturdy, closed-toe shoes with a low heel (approximately 3–5 cm) for the classes. For example, character shoes or shoes with straps are good options. You can also use specific Flamenco shoes.
