Description

What if I can’t participate every week?

Absences from classes can be made up during the same term in any other class or drop-in session. This way, no dance session will be wasted! Read more.

What should I bring with me?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and feel good.

We recommend sturdy, closed-toe shoes with a small heel (approx. 3–5 cm). Character shoes or strappy shoes are a good choice. You don’t need flamenco shoes for the beginner class, but if you have them, you can of course wear them to class. Please make sure that the soles of your dance shoes are clean so that the studio floor is not damaged. Bring a water bottle with you.

Flamenco

Flamenco has its roots in southern Spain, in the Romany communities of the Andalusian region. It has also been influenced by Andalusian, Moorish and Jewish people. Flamenco is known for its intensity and emotional expression. Flamenco is characterized by the smooth movements of the hands, the taps of the feet and the strong presence of the dancer. It is a dance of deep emotion, tradition and passion that expresses a range of feelings.

In the Flamenco classes, you will practice the basic techniques of Flamenco – tapping with the shoes as well as the movement of the hands and body – and learn choreographies to different styles known as palos.

Nunu Ahtiainen

Nunu is a theater expression instructor and flamenco dance teacher. Dance has been a part of Nunu’s life since she took ballet lessons as a child. Fifteen years ago flamenco was chosen as her “own genre” because of its beauty and fire, its delicacy and ferocity.

The dozens of different styles of flamenco reflect and express the whole spectrum of life, from dark tones to joyful ones. In flamenco dancing, Nuno is fascinated by, among other things, its expressive power, contrasting body language, and, of course, the footwork typical of the genre, which involves rhythmic tapping with the shoes. The dancer is a percussionist who creates music, wonderful!

Nunu has been studying flamenco since 2008 with dance and singing courses in her home country and in the birthplace of the dance in Spain, whenever possible.
