As our courses have grown more popular each season, we have expanded their offerings. This has affected the proportion of drop-in classes, and some dancers have requested more opportunities to attend classes according to their own schedules. In addition, we have received requests for student and senior discounts for the courses.
Use a punch card to attend courses
In the future, Flama punch cards can be used to attend both drop-in classes as well as individual course sessions, giving you the option to take part in courses if there are available spots.
Drop-in spots for courses can be reserved through the booking system and will become available after the course pre-registration period ends, as follows:
- Drop-in spots for courses starting at the very beginning of the spring season open on Monday, 5 January.
- Drop-in spots for courses starting mid-season open one week before the course begins.
In the future, you can register for individual course sessions whenever you want to
- to use a punch card or a single-payment option
- make up for a missed class from another course
Course registration will continue as before, and those who sign up for a course are guaranteed a spot for all sessions. If a registered participant can not attend a session and cancels, drop-in spots may become available for that individual class, even in fully booked courses.
There will also be no changes to the course content, meaning that instruction during the course will build on what has been learned in previous sessions. This is important to keep in mind if you wish to attend individual classes occasionally. For example, we do not recommend attending drop-in spots in beginner courses if you have no prior experience in that style.
Along with the changes, the prices of punch cards were updated, and the 20-session card as well as the one-month Anytime card were removed from sale.
Pre-registration for Courses
All spring courses require pre-registration, with the deadline listed in each course’s details. For courses starting at the beginning of the season, pre-registration closes on Sunday 4.1. and for other courses, it closes one week before the course begins.
After the pre-registration period ends, the course price will increase slightly and drop-in spots for the course will become available for booking. You can still register for the course after pre-registration closes, but for example, the first session may already be full if several people have reserved a drop-in spot for that class.
So make sure to secure your spot in the course early!
More options for course make-up classes and small updates to absence notifications
During the spring season, missed course sessions can be made up not only in drop-in classes but also in drop-in spots on other courses, whenever there is space available. All make-up classes can be easily booked through Flama’s online booking system during the spring season.
During the spring season, absences from courses should primarily be reported by cancelling the class booking in your own account through Flama’s online booking system. This policy applies to courses, drop-in spots in courses, drop-in classes as well as open studio practice bookings. Anytime card holders must also cancel any course sessions they are unable to attend.
Bookings can also still be cancelled by email or by notifying the studio reception in person.
Booked spots must be cancelled at least 6 hours before the class starts.
If a booking is not cancelled in time:
- One course session will be counted as missed and cannot be made up later.
- For make-up participants, one course session will be counted as used and cannot be recovered.
- One session will be taken from your punch card.
- Anytime card holders will be charged a single-session fee of €17 after three missed bookings.
If you are sick, you may cancel a class with shorter notice. Course participants can still report an illness-related absence within 7 days of the missed session.
Attention! This policy will take effect in the spring season; during the autumn term, absences should still be reported via email or directly to the studio secretary.
Student and Senior Discounts
From now on, Flama’s student and senior discounts apply to punch cards, Anytime cards, and courses, giving 5% off course fees.
You can redeem the discount in the online store using the code KURSSIALE.
You must present a valid proof of eligibility for the discount at the studio during your first course session. Discounted punch card and Anytime prices can be found on the Prices page.
Student and senior discounts cannot be combined with other offers, such as the early bird discount for courses.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have a Flama punch card. Can I already use it to attend courses during the fall season?
Yes, you can. Punch cards can already be used for courses during the autumn season, in addition to drop-in classes. However, drop-in spots for autumn courses will not appear in the online booking system, so you can register for an individual course session either by informing the studio secretary or by emailing info@flama.fi
How will courses and drop-in classes differ from each other in the future?
There will be no changes to the content of these two class formats. Courses will continue to progress based on previously learned material, meaning the classes are designed to be attended weekly. Drop-in classes, on the other hand, can still be joined whenever it suits you, at any point during the season, and this flexibility is taken into account when planning the class content.
When attending individual course sessions, it’s good to keep in mind that course content and class structures vary. In some courses, the material changes weekly, while in others, a single choreography is built over several weeks. For choreography-based courses, it is therefore most meaningful to join when a new choreography is starting. We aim to keep the course descriptions in the booking system updated, and you can always ask the studio secretary or contact us by email for more information.
Do I always need to register in advance for drop-in spots in courses?
We recommend booking your spot in advance to ensure you can join the class.
As a beginner, can I attend a beginner-level course only occasionally?
We do not recommend this. Beginner courses build very strongly on previously learned material, so if you attend only occasionally, you will not properly learn the basics of the style. However, if you already have basic knowledge of the style (for example, if you have taken a beginner course before), you may join individual sessions of a beginner course to review what you’ve learned. Beginner-level drop-in classes, on the other hand, can be attended at any point during the season, even without prior dance experience.
As a follower, can I attend a couple dance course with a punch card?
On most couple dance courses, follower spots fill up before the course begins. For courses where the follower spots are full, it is not possible to attend an individual session as a follower registering alone. However, you can join a single session of a partner course with a punch card if you register together with a partner or if you participate in the leader role. In our booking system, you can always see which roles are available for drop-in spots on each partner course.
Can I join an individual session of a couple dance course if I’ve only danced that style solo before?
No, you can not, with the exception of the first session of a beginner couple dance course, provided there are available spots. It is always best to start couple dancing from the beginner level, even if you have previously danced the style only in solo classes.
