Show Burlesque
The Show Burlesque workshop is a Show Dance class with feminine expression and it draws inspiration from the world of Burlesque.
Burlesque is an art form that combines elements of dance, theater, circus, performance art and striptease. Almost anything can happen in Burlesque. The performances often involve striptease, but the main emphasis is on the word ‘tease’. The essence of Burlesque is joy – enjoying life and one’s own physicality and sexuality, rather than taking life too seriously.
In Burlesque, body image is diverse: bodies of different sizes and ages are seen as magnificent and powerful. Some people might think that Contemporary Burlesque is about empowering femininity and women’s sexual autonomy. However, these characteristics can be extended to other areas of self-expression, identity and other genders as well. The world of Burlesque is therefore very diverse. Burlesque performances can also feature men, drag queens and androgynous characters on stage. Burlesque is also often political and opinionated – and above all, Burlesque is changing.
During the workshop you can dance with socks or toe covers, we do not recommend dancing shoes for this class. Normal comfortable workout clothes are fine, but if you wish, you can also wear something that fits the theme, for example fishnet tights. Remember to bring your own water bottle as well.
Latin Show
The Latin Show Workshop is based on Latin Dance techniques combined with elements of Show Dance. The workshop is suitable for dancers who have already danced Latin Solo Dances.
The workshop will include warming up, technique practicing of the technique and dancing to a spectacular choreography created by Mirka.
Clothes that are comfortable to wear and move in are suitable for this workshop. You can dance with dance shoes or dance heels, if you prefer. Remember to bring your own water bottle as well.
Mirka Saali
Mirka has been dancing different dance styles for a long time. She started dancing at the age of seven with Ballroom Dancing and continued until her teenage years. Mirka found dancing again in 2010, and she fell in love with Latin dances, especially Cuban dances. After that, she has danced many different dance styles.
However, Show Burlesque took her heart and gave a whole new meaning for dancing. As a teacher, Mirka is compelling and purposeful but still easy-going. There is always a cheerful atmosphere in the classes. It is important to Mirka that the joy of dancing is present in her teaching, as well as the enjoyment of the music, own movements and the crossing of boundaries.
Mirka has taught different kinds of Latin dances and Show Burlesque at Flama from 2018. Mirka is also the leader of three of Flama’s performing dance groups: Flama Crew, Flaming Firecrackers and La Calentura.
