Flamenco has its roots in southern Spain, in the Romany communities of the Andalusian region. It has also been influenced by Andalusian, Moorish and Jewish people. Flamenco is known for its intensity and emotional expression. Flamenco is characterized by the smooth movements of the hands, the taps of the feet and the strong presence of the dancer. It is a dance of deep emotion, tradition and passion that expresses a range of feelings.
In this workshop you will practice the basic techniques of flamenco – tapping with the shoes and the movement of the hands and body – and prepare choreography for the four-part tangos style.
For this workshop you will need sturdy, slightly heeled shoes. For example character shoes are good for this course. Nailed shoes are not used during the classes due to the floor in the hall.

Nunu Ahtiainen
Nunu is a director of theater expression and a teacher of Flamenco dance.
Dance has been a part of Nunu’s life since she took Ballet lessons as a child. Fifteen years ago Flamenco was chosen as her “own genre” because of its beauty and fire, its delicacy and ferocity.
Flamenco is a form of music and dance that originated in the Andalusian region. In its dozens of different styles, you can see and hear the whole spectrum of life, from the dark tones to the joyful ones. Nunu is fascinated by the expressive power of flamenco, the contrasting language of movement and, of course, the typical foot technique of the dance. The dancer is a percussionist who creates music, wonderful!
Nunu has been studying Flamenco since 2008 with dance and singing courses in her home country and in the birthplace of the dance in Spain, whenever possible.
