What if I can’t participate every week?<\/h3>\n

Absences from classes can be made up during the same term in any other class or drop-in session. This way, no dance session will be wasted! Read more.<\/a> <\/p>\n

What should I bring with me?<\/h3>\n

For the class, it is recommended to wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in. You can dance with indoor sneakers, dance shoes, or socks. Take your water bottle with you.<\/p>\n

Dance for Total Beginners<\/h3>\n

Now we are starting from the very beginning! This course is for you if you\u2019re looking for a new hobby or have always wanted to try dancing but haven\u2019t had the courage to join a dance class. Maybe you lack confidence in your physical abilities and don\u2019t want to be the only one in the room who doesn\u2019t know how to dance. Maybe you\u2019re afraid of embarrassing yourself in front of others, maybe new places make you nervous, maybe you don\u2019t feel like a natural dancer, or maybe your body has changed with age and doesn\u2019t feel like your own anymore. Maybe you\u2019re nervous that you\u2019ll be the only one who can\u2019t keep up. <\/p>\n

In this course, we start the dance hobby from the very beginning by getting to know the dance hall, dancing and your own body at a slow pace. The teaching starts with the assumption that the participants are dancing for the very first time, and you do not need to have any previous knowledge or skills to participate in the course. The course opens up some terms commonly used in dance classes, introduces you to moving your own body in a relaxed way and offers some basic movements that help you on your dance path towards interesting course for beginners. The course progresses at a leisurely pace, taking the participants into account, and there are different options for the movements so that each participant can find the movements that best suit their body. <\/p>\n

The course is aimed at those who are completely new to dance, but anyone who feels that, for one reason or another, the threshold for participating in a beginner’s course in any dance style is too high is welcome to join. There is no upper age limit for this course (as with all other Flam courses) \u2013 it’s never too late to start! <\/p>\n

Meri Niemi<\/h3>\n

Meri is a dance teacher from Turku whose classes are filled with laughter and humor while training at full speed. Meri believes that working out and having fun do not exclude one another, on the contrary, the more fun dance classes are, the more likely we are to keep coming back to our hobby time and time again. When dancing, Meri is primarily interested in and inspired by the use of different energies and delving deeper into the qualities of movement. As an instructor she is a relaxed, but encourages dancers to always do their best in the moment \u2013 listening to their own bodies. Meri often receives praise from her students for her encouraging, positive energy and her clear and calm teaching style, which makes it easy even for beginners to keep up with the class. A motto often heard in Merin\u2019s classes is that the moves or choreography don\u2019t matter\u2014it\u2019s all about attitude. Everyone is welcome to Meri\u2019s dance classes just as they are. No matter the style, the focus is on discovering and nurturing your own unique way of moving.<\/p>\n

Meri teaches twerk and reggaeton at Flama, and occasionally also commercial dance classes. You may also spot her at the front desk or replying to your emails, as in addition to teaching, Meri works in the studio\u2019s office. <\/p>\n
