What if I can’t participate every week?<\/h3>\n

Absences from classes can be made up during the same term in any other class or drop-in session. This way, no dance session will be wasted! Read more.<\/a><\/p>\n

What should I bring with me?<\/h3>\n

For the class, it is recommended to wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in. You can dance with indoor sneakers, dance shoes, or socks. Also take a water bottle with you and remember to drink enough after class.<\/p>\n

Latin Dances for Total Beginners<\/h3>\n

Now we are starting from the very beginning! This course is for you if you\u2019re looking for a new hobby or have always wanted to try dancing but haven\u2019t had the courage to join a dance class. Maybe you lack confidence in your physical abilities and don\u2019t want to be the only one in the room who doesn\u2019t know how to dance. Maybe you\u2019re afraid of embarrassing yourself in front of others, maybe new places make you nervous, maybe you don\u2019t feel like a natural dancer, or maybe your body has changed with age and doesn\u2019t feel like your own anymore. Maybe you\u2019re nervous that you\u2019ll be the only one who can\u2019t keep up.<\/p>\n

In this course, we\u2019ll start our dance journey from the very beginning by getting to know dance and our own bodies at a leisurely pace. In class, we\u2019ll dance to lively Latin dances such as salsa, bachata, son, reggaeton, cha-cha, and merengue.<\/p>\n

The class begins with the assumption that participants are experiencing dance for the very first time, and you don\u2019t need any prior knowledge or skills to join the course. The course progresses at a leisurely pace, taking the participants into account, and various movement options are offered so that each participant can find the movement patterns that best suit their own body.<\/p>\n

The course is aimed at those who are completely new to dance, but anyone who feels that, for one reason or another, the threshold for participating in a beginner’s course in any dance style is too high is welcome to join. There is no upper age limit for this course (as with all other Flam courses) \u2013 it’s never too late to start!<\/p>\n

Anna Ketopaikka<\/h3>\n

Dance captured Anna’s heart at an early age: she started dancing at the age of 5 in Ballet classes at the Tampere Ballet Institute. Over the years, she continued to study dance, including Jazz and Show Dance. Since 2010, Anna has focused intensively on Cuban dances. She trained as a salsa instructor with Cuban Ram\u00f3n Silverio and she has been teaching since 2014.<\/p>\n

“I founded Flama out of a burning passion for dance and movement. Dance has brought so much energy, strength, presence and dear friends to my life and I want to be able to share this pleasure to others as well. In my classes, I want to inspire people above all to find strength and joy in everyday life through dance.”<\/p>\n

At Flama, Anna teaches Cuban Salsa (solo and couple salsa) and other Cuban dances, such as son and rumba, as well as bachata and reggaeton.<\/p>\n
