Maria Kinnunen’s Contemporary Dance and Movement Improvisation Intensive Course in Flama (Linnankatu 84) on Sunday, October 7 from 11.00 pm to 13.45 pm.

At 11.00–12.30 Contemporary Dance

The class consists of different exercises of contemporary dance technique, and the focus is especially on finding the right flow of the movement as well as taking advantage of the gravity while moving. We will get familiar with floorwork and do moving routines to varying and compelling music. In the end, a choreography combining everything learnt during the class will be practiced. We will especially concentrate on interpreting music and to find our own musicality. Everyone is welcome to the class; the class is suitable both for beginners and for more experienced dancers.

At 12.45–13.45 Movement Improvisation

The improvisation class leads us to explore different ways of moving through guided improvisation tasks and exercises. Besides, the participants are encouraged to find their own creativity in a supportive and open atmosphere. We will start for example by discovering different styles of moving and by utilizing imagery exercises. We will also work both individually and in pairs to get familiar with contact improvisation with easy exercises. The class is suitable for anyone interested in exploring different movements and no prior dance experience is needed; everyone is welcome just the way they are!

Prices:
Contemporary dance workshop (1,5 h): 15 €
Movement improvisation workshop (1 h): 12 €
Both workshops: 25 €

Sign up for the intensive course by sending an email to info@flama.fi.

The teacher of the workshops is Maria Kinnunen.

Maria started with contemporary dance at the age of seven and the dear hobby turn into a profession in 2016, when she completed her BA Contemporary Dance at London Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Different teachers as well as dance styles and techniques have shaped Maria’s perception of dance over the years, and she finds the endless opportunities, momentum and freedom of movement particularly fascinating. During her classes, Maria wants to provide her students space to move, learn and understand together as well as a possibility to enjoy dancing in an encouraging atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to the class, just the way their are!
