During the broadway workshop, you will get to enjoy jazz dance and musical music! The class includes warm-up and various steps to move across the hall. The emphasis is on practicing and expressing Broadway-style choreography. The choreography is danced with a hat! If you have a hat at home, please bring it with you. You can also borrow a hat from Flama.

LYRICAL DANCE

During the Lyrical dance workshop, we will throw us into an emotional choreography and we will enjoy interpreting music through dance. We will do contemporary and jazz dance technique exercises as well as dance choreography. In choreography, you can practice expression and the use of different types of movements, such as flowing or accentual movements. In Lyrical Dance, choreography is strongly based on the melody and the beats of the music as well as the lyrics of the song.

REGGAETON
Reggaeton is a genre of music and dance originating from Panama, Puerto Rico and Cuba and it is nowadays the most popular dance style in South and Mid America, especially among the youth. Reggaeton is characterized by strong dynamic fluctuations, polyrhythm and playing with isolation.
ELINA VALTONEN
Elina has worked as a dance artist in ten different countries. Most recently, she worked for one and a half years in an Afro-Caribbean contemporary dance company in Canada. Alongside North America, she has also been able to tour the Caribbean. As a result, multiculturalism is one of the greatest sources of her inspiration and Elina loves holistic, sweaty and animal dance. Her passion is to combine Afro and Western body movements.
Elina is, in her own words, “passionate about sharing the liberating message of the dance that directs us towards the truth”.

Japs is a talented and unique dancer who started dancing at an early age. He is known for his incredible creativity and style. He thinks that the most important thing in dancing is to have fun and to be your authentic self. While many dancehall dancers are remixing each other’s steps, Japs always brings his own twist to dancehall. He creates steps very easily, no matter if it is practicing at his home or walking on the street. His body naturally flows with the rhythm of the music.

Japs has been performing and teaching dancehall for years. He is one of the dancehall teachers in Dance Jamaica dance school and he also teaches private classes. He has been performing in many schools, parties and local shows, such as Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and Jamaica’s biggest award show, The YVAs. He was a semifinalist in KFC on the Verge competition alongside his crew members Koolaz and Damion.

Julia Silverio (Finnish-Cuban dance lover) has danced and studied Cuban dances for more than 15 years. She knows how to dance popular dances, but she is now passionate about freeing the spirit with the use of Afro-Cuban rhythms and archetypes.

Julia guides us to embody and find our own way of being and moving. Santería tradition works for her as an inspiration or a map to guide one to the place to embody what is important here and now.
