During the adult ballet class, we go through classical ballet technique, practise ballet-specific expression and some choreographic phrases towards the end of the class. The classe cover barre exercises, centre practice and free routines. Ballet develops internal abdominal muscles and improves balance, coordination and posture. In addition, the expressive ability of the body will gain new dimensions. The adult ballet class creates a common space in which we can, at a gentle pace, combine practice and fun. Relaxed, cheerful and bright dancing, but still keeping the main focus.

Barre class is a hybrid workout class – combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Barre workouts are intensely focused on improving core strength, developing the stabilizing muscles of the shoulder and hip girdles, and enhancing flexibility.

You don’t need any dance experience for this class.

Ida Martikainen:

Ida is a present and gentle dance instructor who loves bodily expression. She has completed Basic Education in the Art of Dance between 2004–2013, majoring in classical ballet and having contemporary dance, jazz dance and repertoire dance as her minors. In addition, she has been involved in several dance projects both as a dancer and as a choreographer.

According to Ida, dancing is a journey to one’s own body and in the way to attach to a common space. She thinks that the most important element of the dance class is to stay present in the same place and time: the momentary synchronization and the common sense of the bodies. Through her teaching, Ida wants to get the dancers to feel their bodies powerful and bright.

CARIBBEAN PARTY Caribbean Party Class offers a party in the Caribbean style! We will enjoy Caribbean music and body movements of soca, dancehall, salsa, reggaeton etc. We will turn the music on, set all the worries aside and just let the rhythm take us along. In the beginning of the class, we will mainly have series of steps straight to the music, after which we will create a longer choreography towards the end of the class. This class will certainly make you sweat!

SEXY REGGAETON Reggaeton is a genre of music and dance originating from Cuba and Puerto Rico and it is nowadays the most popular dance style in South and Mid America, especially among the youth. Reggaeton is characterized by strong dynamic fluctuations, polyrhythm and playing with isolation.

WHO IS ELINA VALTONEN? Elina has worked as a dance artist in ten different countries. Most recently, she worked for one and a half years in an Afro-Caribbean contemporary dance company in Canada. Alongside North America, she has also been able to tour the Caribbean. As a result, multiculturalism is one of the greatest sources of her inspiration and Elina loves holistic, sweaty and animal dance. Her passion is to combine Afro and Western body movements. Elina is, in her own words, “passionate about sharing the liberating message of the dance that directs us towards the truth”.
